Thursdy Night Jams

My friend Johnny Keener invited me down to the White Eagle for an impromptu solo set last night. I had a good time catching the 24 Fremont bus from near my house on 88th all the way down to Legacy Emmanual Hospital and then walking the last 1/2 mile to the gig. A quiet night but cozy and with a nice scattering of folks who were good listeners and clappers. One thing about playing solo - you can really tell which tunes work with just voice and guitar and which ones just plain don't work. Ancient History is one of my fvorites from my new CD but to me it is just a bit plodding and less-interesting without a band behind it. Other tunes like Loser Town will always work better, just 'cause it has a good melody and satisfying chord changes. Johnny and his friend Paul on lap steel made a good sound together, very mellow and warm on the ears in a nice, moody brick-walled bar. Here they are covering Dan Jones "The Finder":

Caught up! For now...

This has been a week of many parcel mailings. I've learned a few things about postage rates and waited in line behind slouchy millennials with bags full of presumed ebay sellings. Fun! It's funny that I've been intent on getting this CD out for 3 years now and all the time I figured when it was finished, I could relax. But no! The opposite is true. Now the work begins again. I have to forge a new band that can play the stuff - check. I have some great players in the new ensemble: Brian Gardiner on the drums, Will on the bass and Hans on fiddle and guitar. We've given the material the once-over in anticipation of my CD release show at Sam Bond's in Eugene on Friday, March 27th. OMG, Testface is on the bill as well and so is Tractor Operator aka Eric Jensen. Not to be missed!

Interim available now.

Finally! The final push and the CD is out. Thanks everyone who lended me a hand on getting this finished. Eric Jensen's art graces the cover; Andrew Goldfarb did the back cover and Dave Snider did the layout. To me, half the fin of making a CD is enlisting all the graphic-design and art people that I like to work with. It's so fun to see something come together that is kind of through the lens of a different artist. I'm really pleased with the look of the thing. You should order one and look at it close up. I have them on CD baby here. If you'd rather buy it through the paypal link, that will still be left up for a little while and works for me, I'm still trying to figure out the best way to have my music sold on the interwebs. Ok TTFN, goodnight.

Interim has arrived

I started working on the songs for Interim back in 2011, writing at my kitchen table with a 4 track. I had the good fortune of enlisting cello playing from my friend Amy for several of the songs, lending it some nice melodies and textures. After moving up to Portland from Eugene in 2012, my computer crapped out and life was too disorganized to really work on the song cycle, leading me to simmer in frustration. This was later resolved through several magical rituals administered in a cruel sequence, a humbling series of events brought down from the almighty powers that be. My computer miraculously healed, I resumed enlisting many of my musician friends for contributions of instrument playing and vocalizing, leading to the eventual completion of the tracks, also allowed by the powers that be. Interim is 10 songs long and features mostly acoustic instrumentation. The songs are informed by rock, country and the supernatural history of everythingism. You can order a copy for $10 ppd using the paypal tab thing here over there: (you might have to view the web version of the blog)
thanks for being cool,
Ed

Almost there!

Dear readers, it is with an anxious heart that I type these characters, anxious because, after over 2 years of sporadic work, my CD is 99.9% complete. The only 0.01% left is for UPS to deliver the boxes to my porch sometime this week. I have an upcoming CD release party at Sam Bond's Garage in Eugene on Friday, March 27th. I hope you can make it.
